Week 1 post

This is my grandma‘s birthday where my family and I went down to blue holes and watched the sunset while letting a balloon go. Then went home and had her favourite food pizza which was her last meal.

Today the 16th of August we celebrate your birthday. The day that was your day and your day only! All of this day everyone that knows you will be thinking about you today and spending a minute or two to say a few words for you! Like mum (Julie) and Kim are going whale watching at Red Bluff where we spread your ashes and said our goodbyes. You were my grandma, my Nanma, the person I told everything to and I miss our conversations about work and school and who we like and don’t like. I love how you would always make me a sandwich with tomato, cheese, salt and pepper that taste amazing!!! I also miss being able to walk over to your house and make you a cuppa with a biscuit. I miss everything about you and I still can’t believe that your gone but things happen for a reason and I still can’t figure out what this reason was but when I do I will tell you!! I love you Nanma 💘💗❣

Sorry Miss Flannery that my posts are so late but I’m starting to try and do all my post as soon as possible! Thank you!

Surf trip-101

The other week I wagged a day off of school and went on a surf mission with some pro’s and ex-pro surfers, and lot of normal guys from around town who still shred.
It was a good day right from the get go. We went for a surf check down at the local break (known as Jakes) and realized it was going to be pumping up there. So at around 7:30 we headed back home organizing food and surf boards.

After we were organized, Ry craike gave me a lift down around the corner to young Jake Perkins’s house and we started loading his car up with the surfboards, My camera equipment, food and a lot of alcohol.
(we only took up one car because there is a $50 fee for surfers to get through, tourist are only $17, I know unbelievable?????) But luckily since I wasn’t drinking I didn’t need to pay, that was the deal.

After a 2hr travel we made it to this incredible left hander and the boys went straight out. It was pumping 6-8ft and glassy as all hell. It would have to be one of my most favourites of times in life going up there with a bunch of friendly humans and sharing and shouting each other into the gnarliest waves. IMG_3855

AFL

This year has been a really good year for the Australian Football League, or AFL for short. There really hasn’t been a definite best team this year, sure Sydney Swans might be at the top of the ladder this round, but it’s almost finals and it’s not really much of a lead anyway, most teams in the top five could easily claim it next week if Sydney loses.

Most of the teams have been really solid this year, sure there’s still that one or even two teams that are just nowhere near as good as the other teams this season. You never really know who’s gonna win a game this season. For example, the Melbourne Demons lose most games they play. But as of late they have been on a bit of a winning streak and are fairly challenging for other teams to over come, they don’t lose without a fight.

As of recently however, the Demons have dropped back down to their usual level but it was exciting to see that sort of thing happen in a game of footy.

Most seasons had pretty decisive winners for most games before they even started. But now, it’s anyone’s guess what’s going to happen next, as shown in the previous example.

But another example of this is the Fremantle Dockers, Last year they were by far the greatest team in the first half of the season, they were the favourites to win the grand final, they were untouchable. But they peaked too early, started to lose their games and knocked out in the semi’s.

This year they did much, much worse. They lost the first ten games in a row, lost some of their best players. This included Nat Fyfe who stopped playing due to an injury and Pavolich just retired this year. Now any of their remaining decent players are branching out to join other clubs.

This was beautiful for me to watch as I’m an Eagles supporter and the Docker’s fans are absolutely horrendous. It’s quite scary at times how bad they can be.

All of this and more is why this year of footy has been spectacular to witness.

Noise

I have a very noisy family. The only time that it is quiet in the house is when there is absolutely no one in the house. Even the dog can be noisy, she’s always barking and annoying everyone at the beach. But my dog is whole different story for another, because believe me, she is weird.

The quietest person in the house would probably be dad but even he can be noisy. In the car he plays his music pretty loud and at home and he’ll leave it on for a while. He can play it for as long as he wants as he has two batteries in his car so he doesn’t worry about a flat battery. It’s not that he’s noisy it’s just that he plays loud music, generally cold chisel.

Mum is a different story, she’s frequently noisy. She also plays her music pretty loud throughout the house when she starts cleaning she gets pretty loud. If I ever lose mum or looking for her, I just stop and listen to the sound of a cough or heavy breathing. All those years of working with cleaning chemicals is the reason for that. She’ll also get loud before she goes to work during the night but she’s fine once she gets there.

And then there’s Sonny. Everything he does is loud. Just recently he got a new motorbike and hops on it every chance he gets just rev it up. Not ride it, just rev it up in the shed, The muffler on it is a bit dodgy at the moment so it’s even noisier. He also plays loud music, but Sonny plays it everywhere and anywhere as long as he has music. He usually sings louder than the music too. I could go forever on this but I think I’ve made my point.

It’s not like I’m much better anyway. As I’m writing this I’m listening to music pretty loud through the speakers. Well it’s the only chance that I get to listen to my own  music. Oh well.

Homework Books

So for English, along with this blog, we have to read one of three books that are offered to us. These three books are; The Lord Of The Flies, Tomorrow When The War Began and Z for Zachariah. I have already read Z for Zachariah and Tomorrow When the War began and currently reading the second book in the tomorrow series.

Of the two books I found that I enjoyed Z For Zachariah much more than what I have so far read of the tomorrow series. Both books are very good and I would recommend either of them its just that I found Z for Zachariah more enjoyable.

I felt that the story of Z for Zachariah had a much more focused story than the tomorrow series. It’s quite hard to compare these two books however as the scale of the story between the two is so different. The tomorrow series is a fully fledged out series of seven or six books where as the entire story of Z for Zachariah takes place in one, rather short book.

Z for Zachariah is simple, clean and sweet where as the Tomorrow series is quite expansive and tells many side stories along with the main plot. In all honesty I prefer the simple approach of Z for Zachariah and as there are only two characters in the story and both are well developed.

The tomorrow series has a small group of characters in the story with their own little side stories and arcs which you have to keep track on throughout the entirety of the series. You are often reminded however of these arcs which makes things easier.

I prefer short, straight to the point but interesting stories that only span one or two books. Everything happens and there’s no suspense of waiting for the next part of the story to be released. This is why I preferred Z for Zachariah.

Term 3 in the Year 9 Class

Well I can’t believe that we are already half way through this term.  I have been meaning to write a little about what we are doing in class but the weeks are just flying in.

So in Year 9 this term we are studying poetry.  In class we are looking at a variety of poems and learning how to analyse them.  Students have now started researching a given poet and will be presenting their findings to the class in Week 8.  This work is being done both in class and at home.

Students are also reading a variety of novels in class and as homework, looking in particular at characterisation.  These novels are Lord of the Flies, Tomorrow, when the war began, Z for Zachariah, Destroying Avalon and/or Jellicoe Road.

I am pleased to say the students seem to be enjoying the books!
