A “long” explanation of exposure

I went down the beach and I haven’t gone down to the beach for ages because I just haven’t got around to it. There hasn’t been much swell and it usually ends up being really windy in the afternoon. After school, it usually dies down when the sun starts to set which is also the best time to start taking photos using long exposure.

Long exposure is when you leave the shutter of the lens or camera open and you end up getting like a lined or blurred effect. It’s like those photos you see of traffic in a busy street or highway. Long exposure for shooting traffic usually gives you the blur of the lights from the back or front of the car, bus, truck, police car, and really anything moving with a light will give you a stretched line of light. Like a meteor’s tale going across the photo, it’s kind of hard to explain but when you see a photo you will understand what I am trying to say.

Sun – sational Photos

Yesterday afternoon when the sun was about to set I was down there taking photos with long exposure, shooting the waves coming up the reef and swirling back down into the ocean with the colour of the sun setting. It was something to witness. That is why I enjoy taking those kinds of photos because you see something different through the eyes of the lens. Its different than what you usually see and when you take a long exposed photo is sometimes insanely beautiful!

A Cold Dawn

It was some day before school last week I decided to go down the beach and check it out. It was freezing cold and I was wearing trousers and a jumper but my hands and toes where bare and very numb. I was going to go in the water but my big full body wetsuit was drenched from the dew earlier that morning. I only ended up taking my short arm and leg steamer. The beach surf was small at Siphons/Blue Holes, and really no huge point to go out in the water. It was just too cold. So once it started to get a bit brighter and I could see there was definitely no swell and how low the tide was. I just ended up walking on the reef with my camera and tripod to get some photos of the waves washing up and over the reef and down into the little rock pools. While I was shooting in Slow shutter speed, leaving the shutter open for about “3 of a second giving it a long misty effect of the water washing up and down off the reef. I was happy with the results. Like both of these —>
