How To Comment

Writing a comment on some else’s blog post can be difficult. Sometimes you know what to say and sometimes you can’t think if it’s the right thing or the wrong thing to say. Some tips I could give you to help you write a successful comment are:

Add a compliment.

Keep it in full sentences and don’t use too much internet lingo such as LOL or YOLO.

Add some extra information about the topic that the writer might not know.

Leave links to your blog to let people read your own posts.

Sound like you are actually interested even if you aren’t.

Say what you like and don’t like about the blog.

List some things that could help the writer write a better blog.

Thank you for reading this blog post I hope some of you can find my post helpful and use some of the tips I have listed off.

About me

About me
Hi, my name is Lachlan I am 14 years old and was born on March the 8th I am from Kalbarri Western Australia I have lived here my entire life and schooled at Kalbarri DHS my whole schooling time I like good quality memes and like to have a laugh. One of my favourite memes out right now are the doggo memes. (Memes are an internet sensation)
There are 4 people in my family excluding the pets but as for pets I have; 2 dogs and a cat my doggos names are Fred and Barney and my cat doesn’t really have a name. I have one younger brother called Lloyd and live with both my parents. Most of the family lives in Kalbarri which is why we live here.
Things I do outside of school are swimming and chillin. On weekends my friends and I often make our way into town and take long treks throughout the bush to see what we can find. We also swim across the Murchison river to go into a big shore break which is really fun in summer. I spend a lot of time at the skatepark and ride bikes around there. Its usually where we find our friends if they aren’t at home.
There aren’t that many things to do in Kalbarri and not many ways to earn $$$. Things to do in Kalbarri include swimming, eating and yea that’s about it. I have 2 jobs 1 of them is working at a Café and cooking food the other is looking after and managing a water slide.

Zest Fest by Lachlan Armstrong

Zest Fest is a five year event that is the cultural pulse that has taken Kalbarri and nearby communities up to the 400th anniversary of the landing by Dirk Hartog in 2016.

  • Each year the Zest Festival has focused on a different place, country, countries or regions. This year the Zest Fest is focused on the Eendracht (The 59 meter long ship): Explorers, discoveries and shipwrecks. The word Eendracht comes from Dutch and means harmony. Our last festival will bring all the cultures together and celebrate. This year my involvement in the Zest Fest will start Wednesday the 14th when I start the preparation of the food for the masquerade ball at rainbow jungle. This year is the last year Zest Fest is operating so hopefully everyone has a great weekend and gets a little education on the history of our ships, explorers, discoveries and shipwrecks.

Fathers Day

Fathers day, the day we acknowledge our dads for the great people they are. This year our family celebrated Fathers day a few hours early due to me working and him working as well. So on the eve of Fathers day we brought dad his present. He was very happy with his present and couldn’t ask for more when he knew another present was coming in the mail still. Anyway I suppose you want to know what we got him. So it started off with a card which we had made custom for him from one of the card makers in town. The card was covered by 3d pokemon that turned into a box. We then brought out his big box, inside the box was a tonne of camping gear which he is going to need very soon since he has just bought a new rooftop tent. Our family has planned to go camping in late November or Early December, hopefully. The present, which is coming in the mail still, is a biltong/beef jerky maker which is going to be awesome. I’m still not sure if we chose to buy it for us or him hahaha. Our family eats lot of beef jerky so this will most likely be used everyday. I hope all the Fathers have had a great Fathers day and continue to do what your doing.

List below what you bought your dad for Fathers day.

Should homework be a thing?

Homework, what is the use of it? If we are going to spend 7 hours at school 5 days a week, don’t you think that we should be taught enough? I meen everyone has their own oppinion and this is mine. If teachers are being paid to teach us then why are we doing it at home? Is it just to make their life easier? Or to make us less social? Fair enough if its work that you haven’t finished in class or something alike that. But I strongly agree that homework shouldnt be enforced throughout schools, if a student wanted to study a certain subject and become top of the class don’t you think they would? Many people may disagree with this post by saying that ‘homework teaches them more’ or ‘It helps them be ready’ and yes both these statements are true but like I stated, If a student wanted to become good at something they would study it themselves. I am hoping that im not the only one with this opinion and dont expect everyone to think the same so if this doesnt suit your opinion dont be offended.

Leave you opinion in the comments below so I can see if I am thinking the same as some other students.

My scones recipe

For the past 6 weeks I’ve been making scones for the Flamin Galah café. Before this 6 weeks I had never made scones in my life. When I was first forced to make scones I thought they were going to be the worst things in the world but they actually turned out as some of the best scones in Kalbarri. (So the grey nomads say.) My scones have had many compliments and been spread throughout all caravan parks in Kalbarri. Most of the people enjoying my scones aren’t from Kalabari or even WA, most are actually from other states of Australia.

The recipe is listed below.

450g (3 cups) self-raising flour

This isn’t the entire recipe I have removed my secret ingredient because if I hadn’t, Id have to kill you.

Reading Tomorrow when the war began

This past term I have been reading the book Tomorrow when the war began. This book is a great series as I have heard. I am currently only on the 1st book of the 7 in the series. The book is really enjoyable and I am really getting into it. Even when i was first begining to read the book I was getting excited and just wanted to keep reading more and more to find out what happens next. The book gradually builds up with excitement and becomes better and better by the page. Once I have finished reading this book I am definatly planning to read to rest of the series. I would really recommend this book to everyone even if you don’t like reading, you can watch the movie. I really like this book and am hoping I can get some others to start enjoying it.

Country Week

Country Week is one of the up coming events that I am extremely excited about. Country week is a week of getting away from school (The second best part, The best part is the teachers going) and going to play sport against a number of other schools. Country week is going to amazing I can already tell because of the 3 teachers we have going. All 3 of the teachers going are probably my favourite in the school which is awesome. The 3 sports which will be played at country week are soccer, volleyball and netball. I am in the volleyball team which i am really enjoying. The people in my team are awesome and so are the people I have been paired with to room with. We have trainings at least once a week most the time its twice to prepare for the real thing. We also have volleyball games against schools staff on Fridays at lunch time which i amreally looking forward to. Playing games is what I really look forward to but the training is important and learning techniques. I am also looking forward to country week because of all the great activities we will be doing hopefully walking through Kings Park would be one so I can catch a lot of Pokemon. All together I am really looking forward to the whole week probably the most excited I’ve been for awhile. (Apart from when I got my 10km egg). <—- Only Harry will understand the last sentence

The big storm

The rain started Monday night just after a few friends and I had a big day out. For a while it was just rain and it continued on for a long time. As the sun set further and further down, the storm started to get worse and worse. It was a hard night to sleep through due to thunder and lightning but I got through it for a while.

That was until about 4:30 in the morning where I heard a load BANG! which shook all the house windows. My dogs started barking and were concerned about what had happened and so was I for a while till I realised it was thunder. The dogs continued to bark so I decided to get up and have a look around. I walked to mum and dads room to see if they were awake. As I walked in I asked them if that hit our house but they said no. They told me to go back to bed. I was walking back to my bed and wondering how close it was. Due to how loud the noise was and our windows shaking I figured it was either out the front, on our house or on a house nearby. I went back to sleep and I was fine for another hour.

That was until another loud bang happened to interrupt my sleep. Another strike had hit around the neighborhood. This bang wasn’t quite as loud as the other one but it was still very close by. As I got up once again to stop the dogs from barking I checked the time and realised it was 5:30 in the morning. I knew that now I had only 2 hours till i had to wake up so I made the most of it and went back to sleep as fast as I possibly could.

The morning came around and it was freezing. The rain was still here and still coming down heavily on the roof. As I woke from my bed and moved out from under the nice and warm doona I didn’t want to get up. I continued to face the cold and got dressed ready for school and put 2 of my warmest jumpers on. I walked out of my room and went to have breakfast where i had warm eggs on warm toast. After this mum dropped me at school and left me to freeze to death.

School was now over and the rain had stopped for a little while and I walked to the front of the school where mum was picking me up. I got in the car and waited a while for my brother to get to the car where he told me that a house 3 houses up was the one that got struck by lightning which now has no power. Luckily our house wasn’t the one to get hit and luckily the house that was hit didn’t catch fire.

Great Weekend

This weekend may have been one of the best I’ve had in a long time.

This Saturday Jack, Nate and I decided we would kayak across the river and adventure the fellow lands. The day started off around 10:30 am when I contacted Jack on Facebook asking him if he’s going to come into town. He said he was going to meet at my house in about 10 minutes. We had already planned to go kayaking the only problem was, neither of us owned a kayak. We realised this and decided to grab our good mate Nate. We skated to Nate’s house and knocked on his door, Nate was real happy we came. He asked his parents if we could use their kayak, Nate’s parents were very kind and let us use it for the day and even dropped it off down where we put it in.

After about 30 minutes of riding  down to where we were putting the kayak in we eventually arrived. Nate’s mum was waiting there already, which makes sense as we were on a skateboard and she was in a car. We unloaded the kayak off the back of the ute and took our shoes off and put them in the car. We figured out how 3 of us were going to fit on a 1 person kayak and finally made a plan which worked. I was at the front as I suck at rowing and Jack was at the back because he was heaviest this left Nate stuck in the middle having to do all the work. It didn’t take us long to get across only about 5 or 10 minutes. We pulled the kayak up on the beach and looked to where we could trek.

Our adventure started at the very moment we saw some kind of little lake in the middle of some small bushes. We were headed towards it and then suddenly Jack dropped, he had fallen into water. This water wasn’t just any water either it was full of mosquito lave. As soon as we realised this we sprinted out of the area to a nearby old tree. The tree was very sketchy yet Jack had the impression he could climb it. To my surprise Jack made it to almost the very top of the tree.

In the mean time Nate and I found someone‘s old T-shirt and decided to make shoes out of it as there were many double g’s. After figuring out how to make a shoe properly and half decent, Nate and I got up and high fived. After the high five we suddenly heard Jack saying ‘Can someone help?’ Jack had got to the top of the tree but the branch he needed to step on to get down was about to snap. There was no way we could have possibly helped Jack get out so we had to tell him to risk it. Jack got out of the tree without even a scratch which was great, but not very exciting. We trekked a little further, this is when we found a little path leading up a mountain.

We made our way over to the path at this point there were a lot of double g’s but Nate and I had a bit less trouble than Jack as we had made our shoes. The track went all the way up to the very top of a hill. This hill took us about 20 minutes to get to the top which was probably one of the best views I’ve ever seen. Our view was perfect, You could see all of the town up to the horse ranch and all the way up to Red Bluff.

We walked on a little further down the track which was now downhill. The track just wouldn’t end so we decided to cut off and walk through bush to the ocean. After walking through bush for about 10 minutes we reached an amazing cliff side where we could see the entire ocean from. The view was amazing from here so we sat down for a while and talked. The wind was a lot stronger up where we were because of the altitude. We sat on some very sharp looking plants which were actually very comfortable. After sitting on the cliff side for about 10 minutes we decided to start walking back to the kayak.

We were walking down the track when we saw a tree sitting on a hill side all by itself with no other trees around we found this very cool and decided to walk to it. Once we reached the tree we looked at the view and started walking off. Just as we were walking off we heard Jack yell ‘Goat!’ The goats looked up at us with a very petrified look on their faces, they started to run and we decide to get on the hunt. We tried following the goats but lost them after 5 minutes. We were sad because we really wanted to catch a goat but missed our chance.

The day was carrying on as we walked back to the kayak and some very dark clouds came over top of us. We knew it was about to rain so we started to move faster down to the kayak. Unfortunately we were too slow and the rain caught us. It started to rain heavier and heavier but it was only for a short period of time around 5 or 6 minutes. The rain stopped and we started to walk a bit slower again. I then saw more goats which meant we could plan our attack this time. We planned that 2 of us would flank around the outside and one would charge through the middle. We sprinted at them and caught up to them we were about to grab one until we saw one just fall over. This goat didn’t fall over and hurt itself it faked dead which wasn’t the brightest idea. We were not here to harm the goats so we were very kind to it. We caught it and named it Gilbert. After making Jack run all the way back to the kayak to grab Nate’s phone to take a picture with we took a few pictures then let it go.

After this we headed back to the kayak, we were very happy and surprised that we caught one. We reached our kayak and set sail back across the river. We reached the other side and Nate’s mum was there ready to pick us up as we had already called from the other side of the river.

The day had almost ended and we were really tired we hung around the IGA with lots of food and drinks and chilled for a while. Then I had the sudden urge to climb a tree so we decided we would head to a big pine tree and climb to the top.

Getting to the top of the pine tree was really scary but worth the thrill. After this it was time to head home and rest so Nate rode home and I got a lift with Jack mum. Jack wanted to sleep at mine for the night after he had finished work which was a good idea so we could head off early in the morning and do the day over again. So after Jack night at work  he walked over to my place. This is where things got interesting.

Jack arrived at my house and set the dogs off barking. I walked to the door and let him inside for the moment. I was playing Far Cry 3 for a bit (A video game). We mucked around on the game for a while and then decided to do something active so we went to play with the dogs. Later we came in and started reading the worlds cringiest  joke book. After laughing at these jokes, which were not even close to funny, I started to record Jack. After doing something stupid I made Jack laugh on camera and it was the funniest laugh ever. It sounded exactly like a car drifting which gave me the great idea to make an amazing meme.

An hour after trying to make the meme we had finally made it and sent it to a meme account which will hopefully post it and go viral. After this Jack and I were too tired to stay awake so we fell asleep.

The next day we woke pretty late, it was around 9:20 and the whole ‘early morning start’ thing had gone out the window. We messaged Nate who unfortunately couldn’t come today as he was heading somewhere with his family. So we decided to call Luke,. He was still asleep though and wouldn’t be awake for another hour or 2. After sitting in my room for a while thinking of what we were going to do Devlin called. Devlin is another one of my close mates. We picked the phone up and asked Dev if he would like to canoe across the river. He was happy to agree but yet again no-one owned a canoe. We met up with Devlin and asked if he had a canoe or kayak. Of course he didn’t which made things even better…

We rode down to the river and were thinking of swimming across but we really couldn’t be bothered. Then I realised my Granddad had a canoe which he would most likely let us borrow for the day as long as we looked after it. We walked up to where he lives and he was sitting outside.. We politely asked if we could borrow a canoe and he kindly let us.

We carried the canoe all the way down the the river from where he lives which isn’t too far but it was still quite tough.

After arriving at the river we all put life jackets on and set sail once again across the river. This time was a little easier as we actually had a canoe made for 3 people. We got across quickly and set foot on land and ran for the track we had gone up the day before. Instead of aiming directly for the track though we decided to head up another track. This one led us uphill for a long time and didn’t quite have the same view as the day before. From this point we could only see the town and all the way to the horse ranch but we couldn’t see the sea. We walked a little towards the sea and realised we may as well show Devlin the cool cliff face we found. After sitting there talking and thinking about things we headed off.

This time our main objective was to catch a goat. We stalked the mountain side for a while looking for a herd. Eventually I spotted some quite a fair way away so we had lots of time to plan our attack. This time it was thoroughly planned out and worked perfectly. We ended up catching 2 goats. To our surprise we had captured the exact same goat as the day before. This time he was lots calmer and friendlier. The other one we caught was feisty and wanted to butt us. After taking a few photos we let these 2 go together. We walked about 4 kilometres up river and found some cool places along the way but we were getting thirsty so decided to turn around. We walked back to the canoe and put our life jackets back on and set sail once again.

We had made it across the river without getting wet at all and also without drowning which was great. It took us half an hour to walk the canoe a huge 10 metres because of how tired we were. Jack started to get angry which was quite amusing. Eventually we started to put effort in and carried it almost halfway back to where we needed to go. After about 20 more minutes we arrived at our destination.

At this point we were extremely tired and needed a rest. So, after putting the canoe away and putting our shoes on, we started riding towards Devlin’s house.

Once there we walked inside and grabbed a huge glass of water. We laid back for a while playing guitar and then Jack and I decided to head home.

On the way home i decided to stop into the shops to grab some food to pig out on later. This then made Jack late and I felt pretty bad. We arrived at my house and Jack immediately had to go.

After this I was at home by myself and decided to play some BlackOps3 (Another video game). I was playing until I had the fantastic idea to write this amazing blog. If you reached the end of this post without skipping any, Thank you.

Here are 2 pictures of the goat we caught.
