fishing comp homework week6

The Kalbarri Offshore Angling Club held a monthly fishing comp on the 28/5/16. The weather wasn’t looking that good but it was good enough to go out in. It was Dad, Laurie and I.. Laurie owns the Murchison Boat Hire in Kalbarri, he has a range of boats that you can hire. So dad and I met Laurie at the boat ramp ready to put the boat in and get out onto the water.

After about a 45min steam we reached our destination that was about 18miles offshore and about 50meters deep. On the first drop there wasn’t much down there other than a few little bites so we decided to move spots. As we started to wind up Lauri got smashed by something big. After a few laps around the 7.85meter walk around boat and a 10 minute fight we Laurie got up and on the boat it was a good sized amber-jack that went around 10-15kg. Once we moved to the new spot and dropped the anchor we were instantly getting good bites, straight away Laurie hooked up to something good. Once he got it up it was a good sized mulloway so we got that on the boat, looked up and dad was hooked up to something good as well, so he got that up and that was another good sized mulloway, so we decided to put down some line class gear to try and get a game mulloway. Dad and I put down 4kg line and Laurie put down 6kg line. And again it didn’t take long to hook up; Laurie and I were both hooked up. It didn’t take Laurie too long to get it up, it was also a mulloway but back to me unfortunately my double Bimini twist snapped which wasn’t good but that happens when you fish with a light line. Dad also got a mulloway on line class.

As the day went on the fishing went quiet but we were still getting some bites. When there was some action when dad hooked up it didn’t take long to get up and it happened to be a good sized red emperor which was a good catch.

Soon after that Laurie hooked up again which didn’t take long to get up and it ended up being another good sized red emperor. And the finally my rod went off again the fish was putting up a good fight but I still won the fight getting it up. It was my biggest and first Rankin cod which I was pretty happy with, and again dads rod went off with that being a solid pink snapper.

The fishing went even more quiet where we were only getting small fish then a bigger fish came through and smashed my bait but this fish didn’t fight very hard. We got it up, it was a solid red throat emperor.

After the bite was pretty much non-existent we had a long bumpy trip home. We came home with a good bag of 4 mulloway, 2 red emperors, 1 Rankin cod, and 1 red throat.

Gear I used:

I used a shimano stradic FJ 4000 with 40lbs depth braid on a shimano bushy bait king 15-24kg rod.

And a shimano charter special 1000 with 4kg mono filament on a custom rod.

YEAR 8 HOMEWORK – TERM 2

YEAR 8 – TERM 2 – ENGLISH HOMEWORK

You are required to keep a journal. This can be in the form of a written journal or a student blog – your choice.  (If you choose to have a blog, I need to help you set it up and you need to think of a theme.) Your written journal can be as plain or fancy as you like. You can decorate it, put photos on, draw or whatever you like – as long as it is appropriate.  You can use an exercise book or you may prefer to use a scrapbook or other notebook you already have at home.

Inside your journal you can put a variety of things, such as –

  • Your thoughts and feelings
  • Poetry – yours and others
  • Photos
  • Newspaper/ magazine clippings
  • Reviews or comments on books, short stories, poems, television programs, songs and so on
  • Write stories, poems or songs
  • Write about your weekends
  • Biographies of your favourite singers, sports stars etc
  • Quotes from movies or magazines that appeal to you
  • Write about your hobbies or favourite sports
  • And more…….

Although this is your journal, this is also homework and will be checked by me every Monday. Remember that your teacher, the school principal, your parent/guardian or even a member of the Education Department can ask to look at your journal at any time. Please keep it appropriate!

If you have private thoughts or feelings you want to write down in your journal but do not wish anyone to see, please either put it in an envelope or cover it in some way with the word “Private” marked on it and I will not look at it. Do not put private thoughts on a blog unless you want everyone to see them.

As well as your own contributions to this journal, please choose at least FIVE of the following prompts to respond to during Term 2.  Each response should be at least half a page.  Make sure you use your best spelling and grammar and include capital letters and full stops where required.

Please note this is a homework task and you can work on it at home at your own pace. Occasionally you may have an opportunity to work on it in class if you finish work early. The more effort you put into this journal, the more marks you will earn.

Due Date: last week of term 2

Choose at least five of these prompts to respond to over the term –

1.      What would happen if everyone lived in space?   What type of houses would they live in?  What type of clothing would they wear?  What would they eat?  How would they travel?
2.      What do you like about yourself? What don’t you like so much?
3.      What do you think makes a good friend?
4.      What do you think about the amount of violence on tv and computer games?
5.      What things are better than going to school?
6.      How would you change the world to make it a better place?
7.      Explain how to play your favourite game?
8.      Write out your favourite recipe. You can add a photo if you want.
9.      When was the last time you cried and why?
10.  Who or what has had a strong influence on your life?

READING – YEAR 9

As part of their English homework, students will be given a reading log to complete and hand in for marking each Thursday. They are required to read a minimum of half an hour each week night. Please sign this once a week to confirm they are doing this.

In Term 1 the Year 9 class will be divided into 4 reading groups, two of which will be allowed to choose their own novel if they wish. As well as reading at home, they will have one period a week of silent reading in the library and one period of writing tasks based on their novel.  These groups are, I feel,  strong readers who will read at their own pace, changing books as they finish them.

The other two groups will be given the novel HOLES  by Louis Sachar to read and, similarly, will have one period of silent reading and one period of writing tasks around this novel. They will be expected to read a certain amount at home for their reading log.  I recognise these students as reluctant readers and encourage you to help them along with their reading even if that means you reading some of it out loud to them or taking turns in reading. The main aim is for your child to enjoy the story and to understand it.

THE SCHOOL DIARY

All students should have a current school diary.  It is important that your child get used to using the diary daily to write in homework from each of their classes.  It is also a helpful reminder to students and to parents/guardians when permission slips are due, when important school events are happening, when your child is required to bring in special requirements for a class (such as swimming gear), and so on.

The school diary is also an excellent form of communication between the teacher and parent/guardian.  For this reason, I check diaries weekly on a MONDAY to ensure students are using it appropriately and to scan for any comments or notes from parents.  Feel free to write a comment or note to me in your child’s diary at any time. Please initial the diary weekly and check for any comments made by me or another teacher.

Please encourage your child to use his/her diary by checking and initialling it each week .
