Year 8 Excursion – Monday, 5 December

On Monday, 5 December, the Year 8 English class will walk down town to make a video for their pen pals in Italy. This is in response to a video sent from Italy in which our pen pals showed us around their town.

We plan to film at the foreshore/jetty/skate park/beach and Chinaman’s Lookout. We will have ‘recess’ at Sally’s Tree and return to school at lunchtime.

Students can bring along a small ‘prop’ such as a skateboard, small fishing rod, ball or frisbee to use in the video.

Permission slips will go home on Monday.

Parents are welcome to join us.

Students on the Blogging Challenge

Readers from the Student Blogging Challenge, here are your possible choices this week:

Activity #1
Readers, what natural disasters or emergencies are factors where you live? How have you prepared? If you have faced a large-scale emergency, how did you deal with it? Do you have any advice for us? Please let us know in a comment (and please leave your blog URL!).

Activity #2
Write a list post of items that a student can put in an emergency bedside kit. If you had to leave in a hurry, what could you have ready to grab-and-go? (Come back when you are done and leave your URL so we can read your post).

Activity #3
Write a post describing a natural or human-caused emergency that has happened in your community. What were the consequences? How did you, your family, or emergency responders deal with it? (Come back when you are done and leave your URL so we can read your post).

Activity #4
Please take our Emergency Preparedness Survey. We will share the results and our conclusions by mid-November. Thanks!

What I have uncovered is incredible. A tree. The very first, or last tree to have survived the end.  Underground? Yet it seems to float on a platform below the bedrock. The real question is though, how long has it been here. Was it here before or after the end. That we will never know. The true events that took place have faded over the years. It may have only been one generation ago or thirty. The past has been forgotten, erased. But now there is a future.

This tree can teach us much. Exactly what I have no idea. That is what I intend on finding out though. Even if this tree has remained hidden from the harsh conditions of the world and its new inhabitants. I need to protect however I can, but how? That can be a later answered question, for now, I need to conduct my research. This will take years and years of hard work and endurance, it’ll be worth it though, better get stuck in.

Strange, these tree doesn’t seem to be able to produce seeds. From what I know this is how a tree reproduces. But why is this? why would a plant be missing such a key to its survival. What else I know of plants is that they require water to survive. This plant seems to be as healthy as can be, but I don’t know where it is getting liquids from? Investigating the soil surrounding I have found several bones of all sort of creatures, strange. Roots were also found wrapping around some of these bones.

Not sure what to figure out that’s suppose to mean yet. How can that be explained? I’ll work on that tomorrow, because for now I’m going to sleep. Then suddenly I woke up…
